After two years without a home for their horses, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office acquired a new addition to its mounted enforcement unit.

Crowd Celebrates New Mounted Enforcement Unit Barn in Santa Ynez
More than 250 people gathered at the Santa Ynez Valley Equestrian Center late Sunday afternoon to celebrate the Sheriff’s Mounted Enforcement Unit’s new headquarters and raise funds to fill unmet needs of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
The nonprofit Sheriff’s Benevolent Posse held the Old Fashioned Barn Raising Dedication for the headquarters, named the Hilf-Douglas Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Mounted Unit Stable in honor of two donors primarily responsible for making the new facility a reality.

New Barn for Santa Barbara County Sheriff Horses
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's horses have a new home.
Two years ago, the Sheriff's lease at a barn in Lompoc was canceled by the federal government leaving the Sheriff's Mounted Enforcement Unit without a home.
The Sheriff's Benevolent Society donated the $160,000 barn at the Santa Ynez Valley Equestrian Center to house the horses and provide a training facility. The barn has seven stalls and a conference room.

Sheriff’s Benevolent Posse Donates $35,000 to Bring Back D.A.R.E.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A strong push to return the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's D.A.R.E program back the south county after being absent for more than 10 years, may soon become a reality.
Due to budget cuts, the program was stopped back in 2004.
Now, the Sheriff's Benevolent Posse has donated $35,000 to help fund and expand the Sheriff's D.A.R.E program, which provides the community's youth with skills and strategies aimed to help them avoid negative influences, and to focus on their own strengths and potential.

D.A.R.E. Program Expands to South County
Santa Barbara – On August 25, 2015, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors approved the acceptance of a $35,000 donation from the Sheriff’s Benevolent Posse, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Sheriff’s Benevolent Posse works within our Santa Barbara County communities to increase community awareness about the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, and to raise much needed funding that improves resources and programs within the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Benevolent Posse is providing this donation to the Sheriff’s Office to help fund the continued provision and expansion of the Sheriff’s D.A.R.E program.
