The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s horses have a new home.
Two years ago, the Sheriff’s lease at a barn in Lompoc was canceled by the federal government leaving the Sheriff’s Mounted Enforcement Unit without a home.
The Sheriff’s Benevolent Society donated the $160,000 barn at the Santa Ynez Valley Equestrian Center to house the horses and provide a training facility. The barn has seven stalls and a conference room.
“The mounted unit provides such a great service to our entire county,” said Richard Kline, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Benevolent Posse. “This is a demonstrable example of how those of us who are volunteers for the Sheriff’s Benevolent Posse and any citizen can help the Sheriff’s Department make a difference.”
There’s an “Old Fashioned Barn Raising Dedication” scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Santa Barbara Equestrian Center on North Refugio Road in Santa Ynez to raise funds for programming and equipment needs.
